Energy Makers and Mito Kids was written and illustrated by Deb Wells. Deb Wells lives in Coastal Massachusetts with her husband Fred and children. She is the adoptive mom of Andrew, Gaige, Bliss and True. She dabbles in all the creative arts; including singing, writing, scribing and illustrating. This project started when her daughter Bliss, was trying to tell her first grade class about Mitochondrial Disease. A rough draft of the book was started and over time, it evolved into Energy Makers and Mito Kids. She is the mother of two boys with Mitochondrial Disease. Andrew, born on the Fourth of July in 1996, lost his battle with Mito on Memorial Day in 2003. In 2008, True, then 3, was also diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease. This book was also written for him, so that he can understand his own Energy makers and how all the wonderful Mito kids we know, differ. She hopes this book will be used as a tool to both educate about Mito, as well as, build a bridge in communities where misunderstanding of the disease affects families on a very personal level. She wants everyone to know, "Mito Kids Rock!"
