Info about Mitochondrial Disease
Mitochondrial Disease is a defect in the part of the cell that produces energy. The food we eat converts into many components which make energy for our bodies to run. Its similar to trying to pay all your bills when you don’t have enough money to do so. Energy distribution to the organs and systems of the mito patient experience similar things. Currently there are no effective treatments or cures for mitochondrial diseases.
*Every 15 minutes a child is born that will develop Mito by age 10.
*It is estimated that of the 4 million children born each year in the United States, up to 4000 develop Mito, about the same incidence as cystic fibrosis.
